ALBAWABA - Videos and photos of a dead Palestinian baby circulated the internet with a famous Israeli media outlet claiming he was not a real child, but a doll.
The Jerusalem Post shared an article on Dec. 1st with the title: "Al Jazeera posts blurred doll claims its to be a dead Palestinian baby." Later on, the Israeli newspaper deleted the article and shared a clarification.
It said: "Over the weekend, we shared an article based on faulty sourcing. The article in question did not meet our editorial standards and was thus removed."
"We take this matter seriously and will be handling it internally in order to prevent similar incidents from reoccurring," The Jerusalem Post maintained.
It added: "We regret this incident and remain committed to upholding the highest journalistic standards at all times."
Muhammad Hani Al-Zahar, a 5-month-old, was killed in an Israeli airstrike on the Gaza Strip. Photos and video of the dead Palestinian baby went viral as many pro-Israel claimed that the baby was a "doll".
A pro-Palestinian activist posted a video of the Palestinian baby and wrote: "A Palestinian mother lost her 5-month-old baby to an Israeli air strike in Gaza yesterday. As if that was not a terrible act in itself, right-wing propagandists in Israel and India posted a manipulated photo of a dead baby and claimed it a doll instead."
Another said on X (Formerly Twitter): "If you still see the newborn baby as a doll you are completely blind."
Palestinian news outlet, WAFA, posted multiple photos of the baby and wrote: "The infant, Muhammad Hani Al-Zahar (5 months), was martyred this morning as the occupation aircraft bombed citizens’ homes in Deir Al-Balah."
Furthermore, Misbar Arabic contacted Omar Al-Derawi, the Palestinian photographer, who confirmed that the Palestinian baby is no more than 5 months old and added that the video is real and was taken at Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital today, Dec. 1.
In addition, Palestinian journalist Hani Abu rezeq posted photos of the infant and said on Instagram: "This infant was born in the midst of this war and tragically lost his life, he is not more than a month and a half old. He was martyred in the arms of his mother after their home was bombed in Al-Maghraga area."
Over 6,000 Palestinian children have been killed since Oct. 7, the Gaza Health Ministry said. Over 15,000 people were also killed in Gaza since the start of aggressive attacks in October.
