'Osama Bin Laden of Gaza': Gallant's post about Mohammed Deif causes controversy

ALBAWABA - Israeli Minister of Defense Yoav Gallant has caused controversy on social media after a post regarding information Israel made about the fate of Al-Qassam Brigades head Mohammed Deif.

Gallant posted a picture of himself with his pen pointed out at a small picture of Mohammed Deif, which the Israeli army announced he was killed in an airstrike on Khan Yunis on July 13. 

The Israeli army announced that Al-Qassam Brigades chief and Rafeh Salama, the commander of Hamas's Khan Younis Brigade, were killed after a strike on the place they were staying in in Gaza.

Hamas released a statement regarding the news about Mohammed Deif and said: "Confirming or denying the martyrdom of any of the Qassam leaders is a matter for the leadership of the Qassam Brigades and the leadership of the movement."

Yoav Gallant posted a picture of himself and wrote: "Muhammad Deif, the ‘Osama Bin Laden of Gaza,’ was eliminated on 13.07.24."

The Israeli Defense Minister has sparked a wide debate on social media after he referred to Deif as 'Osama Bin Laden of Gaza'. A person commented: "But the dad of Israel, Yahya Ainwar is alive."

Another X user wrote: "How many times did u kill him, idiots. And if it's true so what, u killed a lot of Hamas leaders, u killed the founders, did they stop fighting fir their freedom, resistance is an idea that never dies with Hamas or without."

He added in the post: "This operation reflects the fact that Hamas is disintegrating and that Hamas terrorists may either surrender or they will be eliminated. "
