ALBAWABA - Mariya Filippovna Limanskaya, who was born on April 12, 1924, has died at the age of 100. She was best known for her famous picture with his inscription from 1984.
RT Arabic reported that Limanskaya, who used to be a military traffic guard (a female member of Red Army traffic control units), serving for three years during World War II died on Monday, November 25, 2024.
"Tonight, Maria Filippovna Limanskaya, known worldwide as the ‘Madonna of Brandenburg’, passed away at the age of 100. Maria Filippovna is a wonderful person with a difficult but bright destiny… I express my sincere condolences to family and friends. This is a great loss for everyone, and I am proud that I knew her personally," Roman Busargin, governor of the Russian Saratov region, posted on Telegram.
After the end of World War II, Limanskaya worked as a nurse, then as a librarian at a school in Volgograd, and in 1994 she moved to live with her daughter in the village of Zvonarevka in the Saratov region of Russia until she passed away on the night of November 26.
Limanskaya turned 100 in April 2024 and died seven months later in Marksovsky District, Russia.
It is worth mentioning that she was nicknamed "Brandenburg Madonna".
