ALBAWABA - In an incident that left human rights activists with open mouths, an Iraqi man who was on board a migration boat to Italy, raped a teenage girl while the boat was sinking and in front of her helpless mother.
According to an Italian media outlet, a 16-year-old teenage girl was raped and choked to death by an Iraqi man, 27, who was on a migrant boat in the Mediterranean on the way to Europe.
Horrified witnesses claimed that during the raping attack, the boat was sinking, however, the attacker survived the shipwreck that saw dozens killed off Italy.
Corriere also reported citing witnesses, that the Iraqi man carried out the rape attack against the teenager after seeing his wife and daughter drown amid a boat sinking.
A police investigation into the case was launched as Italian media reported that the girl was raped and suffocated while her helpless mother was watching as the boat sank. The mother survived the incident and reported her daughter's rape and killing to the police.
The police arrested the Iraqi man on accusations of raping and killing the teenage girl who was traveling to Europe with her mother.
According to reports, the boat which was carrying 70 people sank off the Mediterranean sea and only 12 people were saved, but one of the survivors later died.
