ABAWABA - Jordanian authorities responded to calls after an unusual toy was found being sold inside one of the shops in Irbid governorate.
A children's doll displayed in several markets sparked widespread controversy and anger after citizens deemed its design incompatible with the country's values, demanding its removal from the markets.
The images circulating showed that the doll resembled a "Barbie" doll, but it was designed in the form of a male wearing women's clothes and makeup.
Jordan authorities respond:
According to Wafaa Al-Momani, Assistant Director General for Regulatory Affairs at the Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization, shipments of imported toys include hundreds of different items and are subject to random inspections based on risk criteria and sales seasons.
She explained that the entry of this doll into the local market was limited and unintentional, noting that the importer did not pay attention to the nature of its design, stressing that the primary responsibility lies with importers and traders to sort goods and ensure their suitability for society before offering them for sale.
