Families of the people kidnapped paid the gang about $15,000, (equaling $3,000 per person). Two people were released due to their illness as they suffered from high blood pressure.
Jordanian man Ayman Mahidat appealed to the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to help release his son, Suhaib, 23, and another person named Khaled Al-Omari in the Mexican state of Chihuahua.
Suhaib's family explained that their boy wanted to live the "American dream" by immigrating and looking for a job opportunity along with a group of young Jordanians.
Their route there was via the UK, then Colombia, Guatemala, then Honduras, and from Mexico to the US, but unfortunately he was kidnapped with 4 others in Mexico.
Gang refused to release Jordanian despite getting ransom
A third person was later released, but as for the young men Mahidat and Al-Omari, the gang again demanded $3,500 in exchange for their release, and there has been no contact with the gang or any news from the kidnappers for 10 days.
The young man's father said that the ransom was sent to the gang through friends and acquaintances in the US, as there is a ban on money transfers from Jordan to Mexico.
Jordanian authorities announced in a statement that they are aware of and following up with the case of two Jordanians kidnapped in Mexico.
The official confirmed also that the Ministry, through the Directorate of Operations and Consular Affairs and the Kingdom's Embassy in Mexico, is following up with the competent Mexican authorities in the search for missing citizens within Mexican territory.
