ALBAWABA - Amid the ongoing Israeli aggression on Gaza since Oct. 7, 2023, several Italian lawmakers from Italy's "Opposition Five Sar Movement" raised and waved Palestinian flags during a discussion in the parliament.

The individuals in question were seen raising five Palestinian flags and a rainbow flag with the the word "Peace" written on it in hopes of the recognition of the state of Palestine similar to the recent ruling made by Ireland, Spain, Malta, Norway, and 140+ other countries.

According to Al Jazeera, the flags were waved and raised while their colleague Riccardo Ricciardi was speaking calling Italy to recognize the state of Palestine.

During his speech in the parliament, Ricciardi said:

"We must never be afraid to recognize a community's chance to rally around a flag" and further went on to condemn Italy's Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni's far-right government after expressing a two-state solution between Palestine and Israel but earlier abstaining from a UN resolution.

After expressing their stance on the matter, the chamber's officer told the five-star lawmaker that they should refrain from showing symbols in the parliament, resulting in the members handing over the flags to the chamber's officials.
