ALBAWABA - An Israeli woman might be the first Israeli female to go to jail for refusing to join the army, and for rejecting the Israeli government's policy in Gaza.

Sofia Orr, 18, is facing a jail term after she announced her rejection to enter the Israeli army as the war in Gaza is about to enter its fifth month.

Sophia announced earlier that Feb. 25 was the date of her conscription, but she said on this date "I will refuse conscription and will probably go to military prison because of that."

She added: I refuse to participate in the violent policies of oppression and apartheid that Israel has imposed on the Palestinian people, especially now with the war."

"Demonstration of support for the war resister Sofia Orr," Hadash, an Israeli political party, posted on its X account that a protest is expected to be held in support of the Israeli woman's right to refuse to join the Israeli army.

Israel is launching large-scale, and brutal attacks and airstrikes against Palestinians in Gaza, with over 29,600 people have been killed, mostly women and children, according to the Ministry of Health in the strip.

Furthermore, the ministry added that at least 69,737 others were injured since Oct. 7.

Sofia Orr announced that she received death and rape threats after she refused to join the army. She was also accused by social media users of treason, and her friends described her as a 'self-hating Jew'.

British newspaper The Times reported citing Orr: "Terrible things have happened in Israel, but terrible things are also happening in Gaza, and I feel sorry for everyone."

According to Al Jazeera, Tal Mitnick, 18, from Tel Aviv was jailed for 30 days after refusing to join the Israeli army. He said: "More killing and more violence won’t bring back the lives lost on 7 October. I know people are hurt. Traumatised. But this doesn’t make anything better. To root out extremist ideas from Palestinian society, we must root them out in Israel."
