Iranian hero in viral video carrying injured protester was killed. Who is he?

ALBAWABA - Footage from the protests in Iran has gone viral, showing a man carrying an injured protester and running while trying to save him amid deadly anti-government demonstrations across the country. 

Many questioned the identity of the person who was seen holding another person after he was injured while protesting against the Islamic Regime.

A person shared the footage and wrote, "Iran Revolution 2026: Mashhad- Jan 8
'Well done, hero!' An inspiring scene newly circulating online shows a protester carrying a wounded comrade on his back to safety. A voice calls out in support: 'Well done, hero!'."

In another post on X, the same person reshared the clip announcing the death of the Iranian hero in the viral video. He wrote, "The man carrying an injured protester to safety in this viral video has reportedly been identified as Hamid Mahdavi, a firefighter. He was later shot dead by the regime's repressive forces. He died putting his life on the line for others.  "

According to several accounts on X, the man seen in the video carrying an injured protester was identified as Hamid Mahdavi. The clip is believed to have been taken on Jan. 8.

He worked as a firefighter, and he joined the latest protests in Mashhad city. Unfortunately, Hamid Mahdavi was shot dead at the hands of Iranian security forces. 

Iran International also confirmed in a post the identity of the man in the video and mentioned that he was hired as a professional firefighter. Before his death, Hamid Mahdavi said:  
"Finally, you came out alright, man. What a gamble you took, dear. It was all a win."
