ALBAWABA - The Iranian Foreign Ministry affirmed its right under the UN Charter to defend itself against any foreign aggression and denounced Israel's recent assault on Iran.

"We condemn the Zionist aggression on Iranian military sites as a violation of international law and our sovereignty," the ministry said in a statement. It also affirmed Iran's commitment to regional security and the protection of its national interests by pointing out that tensions are caused by Israel's continued regional wars, which are backed by the United States and its Western allies.

Israel's activities have also been condemned by a number of Arab and Islamic nations, who see them as risks to regional stability and as infringement of Iran's sovereignty. The British government warned that further escalation would not be advantageous to anybody and said it is keeping a careful eye on the situation in the Middle East.

According to the Iranian military, two troops were killed in the assault yesterday night near Mahshahr, which is south of Tehran. The Jordanian Armed Forces also declared that no military planes were allowed to fly into Jordanian airspace and reaffirmed their alertness in the wake of the Israeli attack, which escalated tensions.
