ALBAWABA - As the death toll in Gaza has jumped to over 13,000, Israeli police released a report denying Hamas' responsibility for the attack on the music festival on Oct. 7.
The Haaretz newspaper reported citing a probe conducted by the Israeli police in which they said the Hamas gunmen who were arrested confirmed to have no clue about the music festival taking place in the Kibbutz Re'im, near the borders with Gaza.
The Israeli police revealed that a military helicopter opened fire on the Hamas gunmen who were near the place and ended up injuring people at the festival.
Since the start of the "Al-Aqsa Flood" operation by Izz ad-Din al-Qassam fighters, the military wing of the Hamas resistance group, 1,200 Israelis have been killed. Israeli authorities said the number of deaths in the festival was 364. The identities of the festival deaths were not revealed.
Nevertheless, Yedioth Ahronoth, an Israeli newspaper, also reported that soldiers were unable to detect and target "Hamas militants," leading to the military helicopter "using artillery" against civilians at the music festival.
If Hamas didn’t attack festival, then why is Israel attacking Gaza?
The report shared by the Israeli police has triggered massive discussions on social media, where activists debated Israel's right to aggressively attack and conduct even a ground operation on Gaza if Hamas wasn't responsible for the massive attack and the death of hundreds in the music festival.
Israel's attacks on the Gaza Strip were "justified" by the United States and its allies including Canada and Germany as "self-defense." However, some pro-Palestinians said that the Israeli police probe proves that Israel had no right to revenge in this aggressive way.
On the other hand, many netizens said that Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip come to pressure Hamas and force it to release all hostages (over 200) it took on the Oct. 7 operation.
"Al-Aqsa Flood" operation
Hamas military group announced on Oct. 7 a military operation called "Al-Aqsa Flood" against Israelو which is the biggest offensive in decades.
Palestinian fighters "infiltrated" Israel from the Gaza Strip, captured military bases and took hostages as photos and videos went viral online showing Hamas fighters on vehicles inside Israel and others paragliding into occupation territory.
In response, Israeli armed forces announced targeting Hamas positions inside the Gaza Strip. Thousands were killed, and dozens of thousands of others were injured in the Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip.
