ALBAWABA - Days after the ousting of Bashar Assad and his government, unconfirmed reports have been emerging claiming that Asma Assad, the wife of the former Syrian leader, has filed for divorce.
Turkish and British media allegedly claimed that if Asma Assad gained the divorce she could travel to London to live with her family.
Bashar Assad and his family left Syria for Russia's Moscow following the fall of the Syrian regime upon entering of the Syrian opposition rebels into the Syrian capital Damascus.
Unconfirmed reports suggested that Asma Assad expressed her dissatisfaction with life in the Russian capital.
Turkish newspaper HABERTURK reported that Asma Assad wishes to leave Moscow for England, as she holds British citizenship, with the support of her mother, Sahar Atari, who has begun negotiations with a prestigious law firm in England, based on the fact that Asma has leukaemia and that her health condition cannot be adequately monitored in Moscow.
The Turkish newspaper allegedly continued that Asma Assad already filed a divorce request from Bashar Assad at a Russian court, in addition to requesting special permission to leave Moscow.
An X user said: "Asma Assad's reported desire to divorce and return to London highlights the complexities of life in exile."
Another revealed: "Asma Al Assad is just as guilty as her husband. She stole a lot of property from #Syria and supported the "genocide" against the population. If she divorces Bashar, she would do it only because he's now USELESS to her."
Despite what has been circulating in some newspapers, the rumor was not confirmed or denied by any credible source.
