ALBAWABA - After 17 years of marriage, Germany's Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock, a well-known member of the Green Party, and her husband Daniel Holefleisch have announced their separation. Together, the couple has two daughters.
Baerbock and Holefleisch did not specify the reasons behind their split in a joint statement that was given to the Bild tabloid. They also attested to the fact that neither had started dating anyone else.
The statement said, "Our top priority is to make sure our daughters grow up in a loving and peaceful environment." In order to provide stability for their kids, the couple also stated that they will stay in their shared house in Potsdam, a city close to Berlin.
In 2007, the couple tied the knot. To avoid any possible conflicts of interest with Baerbock's political career, Holefleisch quit his position at postal services provider DHL after the 2021 federal elections. These days, he works in lobbying and communications.
The split represents a personal change for one of Germany's most well-known politicians, who is renowned for her environmental and foreign policy leadership.
