ALBAWABA - A Fench newspaper was heavily blasted on social media by pro-Palestinian activists after sharing a cartoon that was doubted to be mocking the situation in Gaza.

Liberation newspaper unveiled a cartoon that was said to be showcasing the start of Ramadan month in the besieged Gaza Strip. However, activists rebuked the cartoon and slammed the left-wing newspaper.

The cartoon was labelled by activists as "disgusting" amid the lack of aid and hunger, people in Gaza are facing after over 5 months of Israeli war, during which about 25 Palestinians died of malnutrition and dehydration.

In the cartoon, titled "Ramadan à Gaza (Ramadan in Gaza)," a Palestinian man is seen running after mice and cockroaches before he is stopped by a woman who stresses that it is not the right time to eat due to Ramadan fasting.

The cartoon also shows a hungry child watching the man and woman while they are all spotted amid ruins and destroyed buildings.

The French newspaper cartoon was created by Corinne Rey, who according to TRT World, was working for the controversial French magazine Charlie Hebdo.

Pro-Palestinians posted on X (formerly Twitter) criticising the French newspaper Liberation's cartoon saying it is offensive to Muslims who are facing acute hunger in Gaza amid the Israeli war which started on Oct. 7.

The Health Ministry in Gaza reported that 31,112 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli airstrikes and attacks on Gaza, while 72,760 others were injured since last October.
