ALBAWABA - The story of Ahou Daryaei, who stripped to underwear at the Islamic Azad University after being abused by the morality police, is still making a hit on social. Now, French academics and activists want to take her to Paris to ensure her safety.

Ahou Daryaei has become one of the main symbols of resistance against the strict Iranian laws against women and the compulsory hijab rule, just like Mahsa Amini, an Iranian woman whose death caused nationwide protests.

On 3 November, the Iranian student was harassed by the university's morality police over her "improper" hijab, in protest she took off her clothes and remained in underwear to protest Iran's strict dress code imposed on women in the country.

The video went viral on social media quickly after the incident, on the other hand, Islamic Azad University spokesperson Amir Mahjob allegedly said on X that the woman was found to be "under severe mental pressure" and claimed she has "a mental disorder."

Ahou Daryaei, 30, was arrested by police and was transferred to a psychiatric hospital. However, activists fear that her life could be in danger in Iran as she is facing severe sanctions, including charges of "moral offenses".

Academics and researchers wrote a joint statement to French President Emmanuel Macron: "We recognize in her one of our students and we are ready to welcome her into our institutions, like other students who would be victims of intolerance and in danger like her."

According to academics and researchers, Ahou Daryaei is a doctoral student in French literature. They continued: "The honour of France requires that this student be protected by our country, which she honoured by choosing to study its language. Pressure should be brought to bear on the Iranian government to have her released, and for her to be welcomed into France if she so wishes."
