ALBAWABA - Jewish far-right groups are planning to Judaize Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied East Jerusalem today on the first day of Hanukkah, a joint statement indicated.
In the statement, far-right groups revealed that a march would be held on Thursday evening in an attempt to end the "Islamic status" of the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
The statement read that the planned march, which is set to start from the Damascus Gate towards Al-Aqsa Mosque, aims to "end the administration of the Jerusalem Islamic Waqf in Masjid al-Aqsa," and "reestablishing full Jewish sovereignty."
In detail, the march is expected to proceed from the Damascus Gate which is one of the main gates of the Old City of Jerusalem. Israeli police have given the green light to the march to go.
In fact, this is not the first time Jewish groups have attempted to Judaize the Al-Aqsa Mosque and end its Islamic status. Many times Jewish groups failed to change the status of the holy mosque, which is under the auspices of the Jerusalem Islamic Waqf, affiliated with the Jordanian Ministry of Foundations, according to the Israel-Jordan Peace Treaty signed on Oct. 26, 1994.
About Hanukkah:
Hanukkah is a Jewish festival that begins on Kislev 25 (usually in December, according to the Gregorian calendar) and is celebrated for eight days.
Hanukkah reaffirms the ideals of Judaism and commemorates in particular the rededication of the Second Temple of Jerusalem by the lighting of candles on each day of the festival.
