Morocco was struck by a significant earthquake registering 6.8 on the Richter scale, resulting in a devastating loss of life with the death toll now standing at 820, while 672 individuals have been reported injured.
This powerful seismic event originated 18 kilometers below the Earth's surface, its epicenter situated in a mountainous region approximately 70 kilometers away from Marrakech, one of the country's largest cities. The United States Geological Survey has officially confirmed the quake's magnitude at 6.8.
The earthquake, which occurred around 23:10 local time, sent shockwaves through major cities including the capital, Rabat, as well as Casablanca, Marrakech, and Fes.
Videos and photos capturing the aftermath, including people spilling out onto the streets and buildings crumbling, have inundated social media.
