ALBAWABA - An Egyptian preacher has triggered wide controversy after announcing a new Umrah application.

According to the Egyptian preacher Amir Mounir, the Umrah application allows people who are unable to go to Umrah to hire someone to go instead of them.

A video on his Facebook account was shared in which he detailed that a person who is willing to perform Umrah but can't, is able to use this app and pay 4000 Egyptian pounds ($130).

The Egyptian preacher, who is followed by millions on social media, revealed that the Umrah app also offers people who want their belated-beloved ones or who have sick family members to perform Umrah by sending others instead of them.

The Egyptian man also justified the Umrah app by saying that it came to facilitate people, in light of the high prices of flights, visas, and the requirements for performing Umrah for those wishing to do so.

Many people criticized the idea of the suggested Umrah app saying that this is a matter of using religion to make money and that it is unacceptable to allow others to perform Umrah instead of others who can't.

A person commented: "This is not one of its kind, some people in other countries do the same."
