ALBAWABA - After being sacked over a meeting with the Israeli minister, allegations have roamed social media claiming that Libyan former Foreign Minister Najla El Mangoush fleed the country.

Activists claimed that El Mangoush, who was said to have met Israeli Minister of Foreign Affairs Eli Cohen in Italy's Rome, had escaped Libya to the United Kingdom following chaos and protests in the country.

In an unverified photo circulating the internet, people shared a Facebook post allegedly saying that it was written by Libyan former Foreign Minister El Mangoush. The post reads: "I have many important papers and I won't be afraid to reveal the truth. I carried out a request by al-Dbeibah (Libyan Prime Minister Abdul Hamid al-Dbeibeh) with the coordination of the Italian side when the prime minister was there."

The post continues: "I'm not a betrayal, I implemented a decision issued by the Libyan prime minister."

People split on social media over the post allegedly said to be shared by Libyan El Mangoush as some defended the ousted foreign minister saying that her name was not verified taking into consideration that Najla El Mangoush's account is verified on Facebook

Others also added that the last post on Facebook made by El Mangoush was shared on Aug. 24 in which she talked about Libya's arrest of an ISIS leader.

However, no official statement has been released confirming or denying rumors about Najla El Mangoush's escape after being sacked over meeting with the Israeli foreign minister in Italy.

On the other hand, a Libyan local media outlet Alwasat News reported citing a source that a plane carrying Najla El Mangoush left Libya for Istanbul, Turkey on Monday where her family stays.

Alwasat News further added that El Mangoush left Maitika International Airport for Turkey on board a Falcon private plane belonging to the Interim Government of National Unity.

Earlier this week, a secret meeting between Israeli FM and Libyan counterpart was exposed causing massive controversy and sparking protests in Libya forcing the Libyan government to sack Najla El Mangoush.

"It was decided to suspend Libyan Foreign Minister Najla El Mangoush and to launch an investigation against her," according to a decree published by the Government of National Unity.

Protesters in Libya raised the Palestinian flag in a way to show support for Palestine against Israeli occupation. Other demonstrators also burnt the Israeli flag as a firm way to reject any possible normalization with Israel.
