ALBAWABA - Rumors emerged online that Hannibal Gaddafi, the fifth son of former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, died in his prison in Lebanon.

Hannibal Gaddafi is the fifth son of the Libyan former leader from his second wife, Safia Farkash.

Rumors circulated on social media since Saturday night that the son of Muammar Gaddafi died of a Kidney failure adding that his health deteriorated quickly in jail.

What's the truth behind Hannibal Gaddafi's death rumor?

Paul Romans, the lawyer of the son of the late Colonel Hannibal Gaddafi, who has been detained for years in Lebanon, said that his client is still alive, in response to reports shared by Internet users since Saturday evening, which spoke of his death inside his prison after his health deteriorated.

Romans further added in a statement to Al Arabiya that Hannibal Gaddafi is in good health and that this news about his health was incorrect and false.

In fact, this is not the first time people claimed that the son of the Libyan leader passed away, rumors also circulated he had suffered a heart attack that took his life, before he appeared in leaked photos broadcast by Lebanese media last April, from inside his cell.

The Lebanese judiciary accuses Muammar Gaddafi’s son of "concealing information related to the fate of Imam Musa al-Sadr and his two companions, Sheikh Muhammad Yaqoub and journalist Abbas Badr al-Din, who went missing in the Libyan capital, Tripoli, in 1978, after arriving at the invitation of Muammar Gaddafi, and of participating in the crime of their disappearance."

However, Hannibal Gaddafi rejected the accusations in the case of Musa al-Sadr's disappearance from his country and said that he did not have any information about the case because it occurred when he was a two-year-old child.
