ALBAWABA - Following his meeting with Syrian President Bashar Assad, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi was spotted eating Shawarma.
Araghchi, accompanied by his Syrian counterpart Bassam Sabbagh and the accompanying Iranian delegation, held a special meal at a public restaurant in Damascus before heading to Ankara.
The Iranian Foreign Minister posted photos early Monday morning and said: "An unforgettable night in Damascus". He added, "After an important meeting with the President of the Syrian Arab Republic, we ate shawarma in a restaurant in the Mezzeh area, next to the good people of Damascus, for which this city is famous."
Abbas Araghchi maintained: "You can find shawarma everywhere, but the authentic shawarma dates back to Damascus, with a history that reaches a century."
Araghchi's visit and meeting with the Syrian President came amid the offensive which escalated in northern Syria after Syrian opposition groups led by Hay’et Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) captured many towns and took control of Aleppo city.
The Russian air forces in return launched massive airstrikes on Aleppo city where opposition fighters believed to have settled.
The opposition group announced in a statement on November 27 an operation called "Deterrence of Aggression" against the Syrian regime. First, fighters began entering several towns and cities in the surrounding areas of Aleppo. Then they were seen inside Aleppo with the latest they had taken control of the international airport.
