ALBAWABA - Following the reopening of Niger's land and air borders with five neighboring countries, videos of embassies evacuating their citizens circulated on the internet, evoking memories of when US soldiers departed Afghanistan.

The evacuations came following a military coup, which was organized by a group of soldiers known as the "National Council for the Restoration of Democracy and Security," and it ended in President Mohamed Bazoum's ousting on July 26.

As a result of the escalating crisis in Niger, a number of foreign governments have ordered the immediate evacuation of their citizens, fearing the rising risk of remaining in the country as the situation worsens.

Among these countries were France, Germany, and The United States. France was one of the very first nations to evacuate its citizens, after thousands of supporters of the military council that took over Niger in a coup earlier this week marched through the streets of the capital, Niamey, to the French Embassy, attacking the building and setting one of the entrances on fire.

The U.S. and Germany followed France's steps and ordered the immediate evacuation of their citizens. The videos reminded people of the times when Taliban took over power in Afghanistan after the U.S. Army ended years of military footprint in the country.

As the American soldiers were leaving the country, videos of Afghani people cramping around American airplanes longing to leave the country as their last chance to survive the ruling of the extremist group.
