ALBAWABA - An American man, who was facing up to 30 years in jail after he forgot his little girl inside a car where she died, was found dead, USA Today reported on Wednesday.
Prosecutors said that Christopher Scholtes, 38, who left his 2-year-old daughter to die inside a hot car, died by suicide.
The Pima County Attorney's Office announced on Wednesday that Christopher Scholtes died on Tuesday night, when his body was found in central Phoenix.
He was set to stand in court on Nov. 6, so he could be taken into custody ahead of his formal sentencing later this month, but he killed himself.
"This is obviously extraordinarily complicated, and we extend our deepest sympathies and sorrow to all the loved ones who have suffered the loss of this beautiful baby girl and now another loss to his family," Pima County Attorney Laura Conover announced.
Scholtes told investigators he left his 2-year-old daughter in the car in Marana town, so she could sleep, and that he left the air-conditioning on.
However, her mother found her body hours later, after the A/C went automatically off, and outside temperatures were very high.
