ALBAWABA - Pro-Palestinian activists and Arabs are calling for a campaign to boycott Dior, a French multinational luxury fashion house, after reports of replacing Palestinian model Bella Hadid with an Israeli model.
Turkish news agency Yeni Şafak English reported that Dior had chosen May Tager, an Israeli model, in their new advertisement. It added that Dior replaced model Bella Hadid with May Tager.
The hashtag "#BoycottDior" has been trending on social media especially on X, formerly known as Twitter, since the announcement of the French company of replacing the Palestinian model Hadid with Israeli model Mai Tager.
A netizen posted: "The worst fashion decision taken so far! I’ll reevaluate my luxury purchase too! Hope a lot will follow!"
Another stressed: "Boycott every brand under LVMH including Dior (if you have the money)."
Furthermore, an X user shared: "Looks to me like @Dior took the side of genocide. Sounds to me like the next boycott just dropped."
Dior's decision to replace Bella Hadid is said to be a strong call by the company that it stands with Israel; highlighting that Bella is a very pro-Palestinian activist who speaks out about Israeli aggression against Palestinians especially after the latest Gaza war.
Bella Hadid has been the face of Dior makeup and the brand's first ambassador with Palestinian roots since 2016.
Hadid condemned the latest Israeli airstrikes on the Gaza Strip, which killed 10,022 since Oct. 7, via social media.
Earlier, she wrote: "My heart is bleeding with pain from the trauma I am seeing unfold, as well as the generational trauma of my Palestinian blood."
On the other hand, Dior fashion house has not released an official or clear statement about reports of replacing Bella Hadid with the Israeli model Mai Tager, nor did Hadid post anything on her social media accounts.
