The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a statement two days after the body of an Egyptian citizen was found in the Rhine River on Facebook in which it confirmed that the government is working closely with Swiss authorities.

The Egyptian Ministry further noted that it is closely following the case of Egyptian woman Maryam, whose body was found in the famous river that passes through many EU countries, including Germany, France, Netherlands, Austria, and Liechtenstein.

The statement reads: "The Egyptian Embassy in the Swiss capital, Bern, has been following closely with the Swiss authorities, since the first moments, the case of the disappearance of Egyptian citizen Maryam Magdy Ahmed Al-Tufaili, whose body was found yesterday, February 11, dumped in the Rhine River near one of the municipalities of the Swiss canton of Zurich."

It is worth mentioning that the Egyptian woman disappeared on Jan. 31 from her residence in a Swiss hotel.

Who killed the Egyptian woman Maryam?

Maryam, who's married to a Swiss man, is sharing the custody of her two daughters with her ex-husband after the divorce. She got depressed and accused her former husband of kidnapping the two daughters and taking them back to Switzerland.

According to Maryam's brother, the Swiss ex-husband prevented the two daughters from seeing their mother for seven months. He added that his sister contacted institutions and organizations that helped her travel to see her two daughters, as she was allowed to spend time with them 3 times a week since the beginning of last October.

The brother of Maryam lost contact with his sister on Jan. 31 pushing her family to call Swiss authorities after she didn't open her messages for a long time.

The police in Switzerland confirmed arresting a suspect in the case of Maryam's death, but without revealing his identity.
