ALBAWABA - The story of an Arish University student has gone viral on social media with people saying that the girl committed suicide after being blackmailed, meanwhile, local newspapers reported that she died of poisoning.
Activists online widely shared the Arish student's story and said that the student was abused after someone took private photos of her without her knowledge.
Human rights advocates released a campaign online calling for harsh punishment against those who are involved in leading the Arish student to commit suicide by taking private photos of the Egyptian girl and abusing her to share them online.
The hashtag "#حق_طالبة_العريش" (which means: Justice for Arish student)" has been trending in Egypt and several Middle Eastern countries.

'Arish student': Egyptian girl commits suicide at Arish University
In detail, social media users said that the Arish student, 19, recognized as "N. S. M.", is studying in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Al-Arish University in Egypt.
They also reported citing some witnesses, that the Arish student's roommate took sensitive pictures of the Egyptian girl while she was in the bathroom and shared those pictures with another male colleague.

The man then started a WhatsApp group, added a number of other students and threatened that he would share the private pictures of Arish students there before Saturday, but the Egyptian girl committed suicide before.
Multiple students said that they received a statement from the Arish University manager banning anyone from talking or sharing anything online regarding anything related to the university.

Local media outlets in Egypt posted a different narrative of the story of the Arish student. They reported that the student at Al-Arish University, "N. S. M." died as a result of taking an unknown toxic substance and was transferred to Al Arish General Hospital.
Moreover, authorities at the hospital confirmed that the Arish student arrived at the hospital suffering from a disturbance in her level of consciousness and a severe drop in blood circulation, and her pulse was weak
They also confirmed that they tried to save the Egyptian girl by providing aid, but she died.
