ALBAWABA - A horrifying crime shook the Algerian community after parents tortured their Down Syndrome baby to death.

Two days ago, Algerian media reported the sad news that a father and mother, who didn't want to raise their child for being from Down Syndrome, killed the 16-month-old in a cold-blooded murder after abusing him.

The horrible crime took place in the city of Bab Ezzouar in the eastern suburbs of the capital Algiers, when parents in their 30s tortured their Down Syndrome baby to death. The couple were arrested and charged with premeditated murder and mutilation of the body of an infant.

In detail, a resident in the same building where the couple live filed a complaint before the Public Prosecution stating that an infant had disappeared and that she suspected that something bad had happened to him.

An investigation was launched and the police raided the place and found the body of the infant with torture signs all over the body, local media reported on Sunday.

The baby's body showed signs of beating and burning with a sharp object, and the couple were immediately arrested to investigate the circumstances of the crime.

Nonetheless, medical examinations proved that the cause of the death was not natural, as the child was tortured in multiple ways; cauterization, burning with a sharp instrument, and biting with teeth.

They left him to suffer from serious injuries, which was the main cause of his death. The family confessed to the police to torture the little baby.
