Narin Güran found dead 19 days after being missing in Turkey, uncle arrested

ALBAWABA - Turkish girl named Narin Güran, 8, was found dead after being missing for 19 days in Diyarbakır province of southeastern Turkey.

According to Turkish media,  Narin, whose story shocked the Turkish society, was found thrown into a river north of her village in a sack with stones in it.

In detail, the Turkish girl was reported missing on Aug. 21 after leaving a Quran course as she never came back home. She was reported missing on the same day. 

Turkish authorities assigned local and national rescue teams including the gendarmerie, commando, tracker dogs, and underwater search teams to search for Narin Güran.

In a post on X, Turkey's Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya confirmed on Sept. 8 the finding of the dead body of Güran in a place north of her town. He wrote: "Unfortunately, the lifeless body of our daughter Narin, who went missing in the Tavşantepe Neighborhood of the Bağlar district of Diyarbakır, was found by our Gendarmerie teams."

He maintained: "May God have mercy on our delicate daughter. May she rest in peace. Our condolences."

Nonetheless, Yılmaz Tunç, the Justice Minister vowed in a post on X to punish all the people who are linked in one way or another to the death of little girl Narin. He said: "Those responsible for the death of our Narin will be held accountable before justice."

Turkish authorities arrested Narin's uncle and the village head (Mmukhtar) Salim Güran following the little girl's disappearance after teams confirmed that the DNA samples taken from the uncle's vehicle matched the DNA samples on Narin Güran's clothes.

Protests across Turkey were held calling for justice after the death of the 8-year-old girl. protesters carried pictures of Narin and pushed for punishment against those who are involved in her case.
