ALBAWABA - Illegal migration continues to steal the lives of dozens of dreams who seek hope in other countries. Cyrpus authorities were shocked after the death of a 3-year-old Syrian girl who was onboard a migrant boat.

The Cyprus government said in a statement that the Syrian girl was taken to hospital after she was found unconscious on the beach in Cyprus along with other little girls, whose ages range between 3 and 5.

In detail, the Syrian infant was on the boat with 57 others who reached the shores of Cyprus, however, despite sending her to a hospital in Nicosia, she passed away hours later due to a heart attack, Cyprus' Government health services spokesman said.

The story of the Syrian girl reminded people of the old story of Alan Kurdi, the little Syrian boy who was killed after their boat capsized on Sept. 2, 2015, in the Mediterranean Sea along with his mother and brother.

Alan Kurdi's image, which was taken by Turkish journalist Nilüfer Demir, made global headlines and broke the hearts of many people as well as shed light on the suffering of migrants.

The spokesperson added that there were 15 children on board the migrant boat, including five unaccompanied minors.

The 60 Syrian migrants were "in distress and dehydrated" on board a wooden boat for several days, after leaving Lebanon on Jan. 18, according to the Joint Rescue Coordination Center (JRCC). They were spotted 30 nautical miles off the southeast coast of the island, where they were rescued.

An old Syrian man was arrested on suspicion of being the captain of the boat as he is currently under probe for several crimes including manslaughter, human trafficking, and sailing on a dangerous, overloaded boat.
