ALBAWABA - Six Yazidi women reunite with their families after years of being abducted by ISIS forces. Nobel Peace Prize winner and Yazidi campaigner Nadia Murad announced the return of the six young women to their homes in Erbil.

"After weeks of investigation, I am extremely heartened to report that we have rescued six more Yazidi women who were taken captive by ISIS." Murad tweeted.

The young Yazidi women were welcomed with warm celebrations from family and friends after almost 9 years of losing contact and almost despairing of a reunion.

"I am very happy to be reunited with my family," said one former captive aged 22, whose name was withheld out of concern for her safety, The New Arab reported.

The six women were first sent to Turkey and released there,  then they were sent to Kurdistan, said Khairi Bouzani of the Kidnapped Yazidi Rescue Office in Kurdistan, whose main role is to manage cases of missing Yazidis.

In 2014, ISIS forces committed what Yazidis call "The Genocide", where approximately 400,000 Yazidis were forced out of their homes in the city of Sinjar in Iraq and fled to Kurdistan.

6,000 women and children were abducted by ISIS and nearly 2,800 are still missing today. Because of the security situation, thousands of Yazidis are still not able to return to their homes in Sinjar, even though it has been six years since the Iraqi government announced a "victory" against ISIS on Iraqi territories.
