ALBAWABA - The Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a statement on Sunday, commenting on reports that "about 50,000 Pakistanis have disappeared" in Iraq over the years.

According to some reports, "about 50,000 Pakistani nationals have reportedly gone missing" in Iraq over the years and under mysterious circumstances without leaving any clue about what happened to them or whether they are alive or not.

The Senate Standing Committee on Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony also "discussed the issue of the disappearance of 50,000 Pakistani visitors" in Iraq so far.

Some reports claimed that "a large number of Pakistani visitors joined sectarian militias in Iraq, Syria and Yemen." However, other reports allegedly said that a number of Pakistanis are now working illegally in Iraq and are staying there.

The statement continued: "In this regard, the ministry made official contacts with the friendly Pakistani side represented by the Pakistani Minister of Religious Affairs, Chaudhry Salik Hussain, who confirmed that there was confusion in the transmission of the information he provided, and that what was reported by the media regarding the disappearance of 50,000 Pakistanis is incorrect."

According to the statement released by the Iraqi government, the report made about the disappearance of 50,000 Pakistanis in Iraq is "false and incorrect".

Nonetheless, Chaudhry Salik Hussain has "made it clear that he would summon the media outlet that published the inaccurate news to investigate the matter."
