An explosion targeting an official from the Palestinian Hamas Movement went off Sunday midday in the southern city of Sidon, leaving the man’s BMW engulfed in flames.
“He opened the door of his car outside his home and the bomb went off,” a source from Sidon said.
Mohamad Hamdan, also known as Abou Hamza, was identified as the target of the bombing. The explosion took place at his home, near Sidon’s Al-Bustan Street.
Hamdan was reportedly conscious following the attack, and was rapidly transferred to a nearby hospital, the source said.
Local media reported that Hamas had released a statement denying that any of its officials had been killed in the attack.
The Lebanese Army also released a statement soon after the bombing, confirming that an explosion had targeted Hamdan as he was entering his car.
