ALBAWABA - A social media user on Musk's X (formerly known as Twitter) named 'Vanessa' sparked widespread confusion after posting a picture of a restaurant receipt containing "White American" as an item, further claiming that the restaurant charged her due to the color of her skin.
While many users figured out the comedic sarcasm behind the post in question, several others took to the comment section and expressed their anger toward the restaurant, as they demanded the name of the place to boycott it over racism and discrimination.
$1 'White American' restaurant tax goes viral
The "White American" text refers to a type of processed cheese usually used in the US on burgers but due to missing the word 'cheese' in the receipt, it caused quite a misunderstanding among social media users with some calling for a boycott and others defending the restaurant.
Items on receipts can be interpreted the wrong way due to spelling errors or abbreviations hence the issue at hand. One social media user on Musk's X wrote under Vanessa's post, "This is racism and should be prosecuted in any normal country, you even have a formal proof ! tat could be huuuge amount of money man! get a good lawyer and you will be reach and famous. in US, Seriously!"
Another added, "Umm........White American is the cheese....Stop trying to make it about something else."
On the contrary, another joined the conversation and wrote, "It’s crazy how many people think you're serious."
What started as a joke by the account, sparked widespread confusion across Musk's X garnering more than 150,000 likes and six million views.
