Zara Gallery cordially invites you to experience a moment in history through the eyes of the Jordanian artist Diala Khasawneh on Monday June 22, 2009 at 6:30 p.m. until Monday July 13, 2009.
In her new experience, Diala uses a photograph of a Damascene family taken in the thirties of last century. Her representation of this photograph is a nostalgic trip in time to a certain moment in the history of Arab cities. In her obsessive representation of this image, Diala is looking into the images of the women in this family, searching for the woman she might have been. Her work is dedicated to honor Huda Sharawi, Um Kalthoum and Siham Jabri, the artist’s grandmother. The exhibition presents a collection of paintings in oil on wood and mixed media produced in 2009.
Diala Khasawnih is a visual artist with a background in architecture, she work and live in Amman. Her multidisciplinary artwork investigates forms of popular and daily expression in aesthetics, arts and culture. Diala took part in several exhibitions and workshops, as well as being part of the Shatana, International Artist Workshop work group. She writes and translates in arts and culture as well as acting as advisor to the independent local art space Makan.
Zara Gallery can be visited on weekdays Sunday through Thursday from 11:00 a.m. -7:00 p.m., and on Saturday from 3:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
