Newly appointed Yemeni Vice President Khaled Bahah was sworn into office on Monday in the Saudi Arabian capital of Riyadh, reports AFP.
Yemen's internationally recognized President Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi oversaw the swearing in, after appointing Bahah to the position just yesterday.
AFP reported the Gulf Cooperation Council welcomed Bahah's appointment as an important step toward helping Hadi's efforts to "restore security and stability in Yemen."
Bahah previously served as Yemen's Prime Minister and was also put under house arrest in Sanaa by the Houthi rebels earlier this year.
Meanwhile in Yemen, violence and instability ensues. Earlier Monday the UN announced that the death toll in Yemen has exceeded 600 since the start of the Saudi-led coalition airstrikes.
Saudi Arabia claimed to have conducted over 1,200 airstrikes against the Houthis and followers of former President Ali Abdullah Saleh since March 25th, 2015.
