A parliament member from Yemen's ruling General People's Congress (GPC) on Sunday escaped an assassination attempt in the province of Ibb, some 190 kilometers south of the capital Sanaa, according to the GPC.

Nabil Sadek al-Basha's car "came under a hail of fire from unidentified gunmen as he drove to Sanaa, but his bodyguards fired back, foiling the assassination bid," the GPC said on its website.

It quoted security sources as claiming two of the assailants were arrested and are being questioned by Yemeni authorities. (Albawaba.com)
