ALBAWABA - According to the Yemeni Embassy in Cairo, Egypt, a top military official was found dead in his apartment.

Maj. Gen. Hassan bin Jalal al-Obaidi was found murdered in his apartment, the embassy's statement said. "We are following with great concern the killing of the director of the Military Industrialisation Department in the Ministry of Defence, martyr Major General Hassan bin Jalal Al-Obaidi," the embassy wrote on X.

It stated that Al-Obaidi was killed at his residence in Faisal, a district of Cairo's neighboring city of Giza, and that investigations into the incident were underway in collaboration with Egyptian security forces.

The embassy also urged all media sources to "ensure accuracy in everything that is published, and not to be drawn into rumors until the competent authorities have reached their conclusions".

According to Yemeni media, Al-Obaidi was found chained and with several stab wounds on his body. Other reports said he was strangled to death. Al-Obaidi was reportedly found dead by his brother who had gone to visit him.

The media attaché at the Yemeni embassy in Egypt, Baligh Al-Mikhlafi, told Al-Araby Al-Jadeed that Al-Obaidi arrived in Cairo 20 days ago, left for Turkey on a short visit, and returned to Cairo a week ago. "Yesterday we received a report at two o’clock at night that he was killed," Al-Mikhlafi stated.

"His brother lost contact with him on Thursday evening, so his brother went with some people and went into the apartment and found him murdered, before contacting the security services and the embassy".

Al-Obaidi managed the Yemeni army's manufacturing and import activities and was previously in charge of producing local armored vehicles under former Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh.
