The president of Yemen warned Thursday that America risks losing international support in its anti-terror war and the sympathy generated by the Sept. 11 attacks if it waged war on Iraq.
"I believe the United States needs to preserve the international coalition to combat terrorism," President Ali Abdullah Saleh said in interviews on Arab television stations during a visit to Moscow ahead of his trip to Lebanon starting Thursday.
"It could lose this coalition and the international sympathy it received as a result of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks as well as the attacks on the Cole and the embassy in Nairobi," Saleh told the Qatari-based Al-Jazeera television.
He added Iraq has been cooperating with weapons inspectors and the United Nations. "Nothing justifies a strike," he told Abu Dhabi's all-news Arabic satellite channel. (Albawaba.com)
