Daesh-affiliated militants in Yemen claim to have killed a senior commander of the Yemeni army in Aden, the Associated Press reports.
In an online statement published Monday, the militants posted photos purporting to show the killing of Col. Ali Saleh al-Yafie in Aden's Mansoura neighborhood.
The statement has not yet been independently verified.
Yemen has been plagued by radical Islamist militancy since 2009 when Al-Qaeda first appeared in the country. Later in 2015, a civil war erupted between the Houthi rebels and pro-government forces backed by the Saudi regime.
