As part of its plan to promote education as a primary strategic priority, the Western Region Development Council (WRDC) today shared further details towards its plans to provide students in the Western Region with a scholarship programme to complete their higher education. The Council will sponsor, in partnership with the UAE Armed Forces and the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage, 75 top students from the region and these sponsorships will be based on merit.
H.E. Mohamed Hamad Al Mazrouei, WRDC Director General, also visited the Higher College of Technology (HCT) located in Madinat Zayed to meet with the first four students and award them with their scholarships allowing them to continue their studies onto higher education.
The WRDC aims to provide an exclusive learning opportunity to the region’s top students. This scholarship programme is one of a kind as it will direct the region’s top students into careers that will plug the current gap of skilled workers needed in the Western Region for future development projects. WRDC’s objective is for the students to return with their new found skills to assist in the growth and development of the Western Region.
H.E. Mohamed Hamad Al Mazrouei, said: “Today, we awarded the first four scholarships and we are delighted to begin this initiative to provide so many of our talented students with the opportunity to excel in their studies, and overcome any obstacles they may face. The development of this programme is to ensure that the top students are given this opportunity, which will also benefit the Western Region. Our aim is to provide 75 such scholarships every year, in collaboration with our strategic partners, to help the people of the Western Region develop and create a better life for themselves.”
This initiative is one of many developed by WRDC in line with its strategic vision and long-term goals to build, attract and retain a highly qualified workforce in the region.
The Council aims to achieve this by supporting economic growth and developing a skilled, motivated and highly productive workforce that embraces change.
‘I would also like to take this opportunity to once again thank our partners; the Civil Services Department, the UAE Armed Forces and the Abu Dhabi Authority Culture and Heritage (ADACH) for helping us to provide this opportunity to our students. We look forward to the day when they return to the Western Region on completion of their scholarship programme to help us develop the region into one they can be proud of” concluded Al Mazrouei.
The Western Region Development Council continues to deliver on its main promise to improve the lives of the residents living in the region and its six main cities; Madinat Zayed, Mirfa, Liwa, Ghayathi, Sila and Delma Island.
