Martin Becka’s "Dubai, Transmutations" is the first of its kind. Becka spent two years photographing the city of Dubai through the bellows of his large format view camera. He printed his images using the 19th century process of " Photogravure" and his custom-refurbished 19th Century Camera for which he is a recognised specialist.
The “Dubai, Transmutations” book, published by The Empty Quarter Fine Art Photography Gallery Dubai & Baudoin Lebon, Paris is limited to one thousand copies. The resulting printed book is widely recognised as being among the most beautiful prints in the history of the medium, with an introduction by Jean Pierre Quignaux and the sixth Century poet Labid en Rabia.
The book was been printed by Calff & Meischke printers, Amsterdam; renowned for their impeccable printing precision. The images are printed in four tone composition with the negatives printed on tracing paper. The book is a hardcover which measures 23x33 cm and consists of 89 pages. The book will be retailing for AED 730 and the portfolio box set for AED 8,100. This book will be available for signing by Becka at the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair on March 6th from 5:30- 6:00 pm in the ADIBF Book-Signing Corner.
