The World Bank (WB) is preparing to help finance another phase of Jordan’s education reform project after successful completion of phase one and near completion of phase two, reported the Jordan Times on Wednesday.
Jordan’s Minister of Education Khalid Touqan told the paper that a WB mission, currently on a visit to Jordan, was expected to help finance a third phase of the overall project, which started in 1990.
He said phase three, which is expected to cost $240 million, entails the building of 347 new schools, the computerization of 400 schools, and support to the ministry's drive to offer free preschool education.
“[The World Bank] was very happy about the performance of the ministry and is very willing to grant us another loan for the project, pending the approval of the government,” the minister said.
If approved, the WB will finance half of the $240 million, five-year project. The other half will be provided by the government, he added - Albawaba.com
