Maneh ibn Hammad Al-Johani, secretary-general of the World Assembly of Muslim Youth (WAMY) and a member of the Shoura Council, died Sunday in a road accident near the King Khaled International Airport.
Johani, who was 60 years old, was on his way to the airport to take a flight to the port city of Jeddah for a meeting with Prince Abdullah. He was admitted to KKIA’s Community Services Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, according to Arab News.
Funeral prayers for Johani are to be held at the Al-Rajhi Mosque in Riyadh Monday after Asr prayers. Meanwhile, Saleh ibn Humaid, president of the Shoura Council, said Johani’s death was a big loss for the council and the nation, adding that he was an active member of the 120-member consultative body.
Saleh Al-Wohaibi, WAMY’s assistant secretary-general, told Arab News that the WAMY chief was on his way to brief Prince Abdullah on the organization’s activities. He was going to update him on WAMY’s forthcoming 9th international conference on “Muslim Youth and Globalization” to be held in Riyadh between October 22 to 25.
Wohaibi will serve as acting secretary-general until a successor to Johani is elected during a meeting of WAMY’s board of trustees. (Albawaba.com)
