Yemeni security forces managed to control riot events resulted from a demonstration by Yemeni workers at Yemen Liquefied Natural Gas (YLNG) project in Belhaf region of Shabwa governorate on Sunday afternoon. According to SABA, the incident was due to a clash, which broke out with one of the project engineers.

Officials told Reuters the riots started over a French engineer's alleged defilement of Islam's holy book, the Koran.

According to an official announcement, the plant's guards intervened when a peaceful demonstration deviated from its way and workers started to attack the plant's properties.

Offical sources denied what was circulated by a number of media outlets on the death of one of the workers due to the riots, saying "It is baseless, and there was not any death or injury because of the riots."
