The UAE's Ministry of Health has decided to exempt expatriates who graduate from local medical colleges from certain conditions that once made it harder for them to obtain work permits, including written examinations and prior experience.
Expats who are graduating from the UAE University, Zayed University, the American University, Dubai Medical College and the Higher Colleges of Technology will be sent directly to attend personal interviews before receiving work licences in the UAE's medical sector, according to Ismail Al Khajah, the director of the ministry's recruitment department.
Talking to the Khaleej Times yesterday, he said the ministry had decided to remove the condition of experience to be eligible for working in the country.
"These are graduates of our educational institutions and they have received proper training in their field during their studies, so we removed this condition."
He said expatriate graduates would also not have to attend written examinations before being licenced, but added that they would attend interviews regarding their various medical specialties.
"We have already started implementing the new rules. Eight expatriate graduates from the American University of Sharjah and the Higher Colleges of Technology were interviewed and all received working licences last week."
Khajah said the new rules only applied to graduates of government educational institutions, not to graduates of private universities or colleges - Albawaba.com
