A U.S. air raid on a house in the Iraqi city of Fallujah early on Sunday killed 14 Iraqis. Women and children were among the victims.

The U.S. military confirmed it had carried out air strikes on houses in the city. It has bombed buildings said to be safehouses for activists loyal to al Qaeda operative Abu Musab al-Zarqawi several times over the last two months.

Witnesses said a U.S. helicopter fired missiles at the house after fire exchanges between American occupation forces and Iraqi fighters in a nearby area. They said the house, which was demolished, was home to a local family. One witness said the house belonged to a "very poor family."

Scores of people ran to the scene and dug through the wreckage, looking for survivors. Body parts were scattered around the scene. (albawaba.com)
