Winners of Panasonic’s 2009 KWN Programme Honoured at Award Ceremony

Winners of Panasonic’s Kids Witness News (KWN) programme were honoured at an award ceremony attended by Shaikha Rashid Al Shamsi, Executive Director of Educational Affairs, at the UAE Ministry of Education.

More than 20 schools across the UAE participated in the competition with each submitting a five minute video, reflecting the competition theme, ‘Ecology and Communication’.

Al Majd School for boys in Sharjah beat 20 other schools to win this years Panasonic’s digital video contest for students.

The KWN programme is Panasonic’s global initiative, structured to develop students' self confidence, creativity, communication skills, and teamwork through the use of digital video technology.

Other winners were:

• Best Story -  Al Zebyaniyeh School, Abu Dhabi
• Best Videography  - Abdulla bn Zubair School, Sharjah
• Best Sound - Marbah Elementary School, Al Fujariah
• Best Editing -  Al Qattara School, Al Ain
• Best Performance - Al Manar School, Sharjah


KWN is a hands-on video education programme where Panasonic provides video cameras and other audio visual equipment for video production. Now in its 20th year, more than 120,000 students globally have participated in the programme.

The theme for the 2010 edition of KWN is the ‘Environment’ and more than 25 schools across the UAE are participating this year. The schools have until the 17 of February, to submit their entries.

“UAE students are extremely gifted and very environmentally conscious. Panasonic’s CSR initiative is designed to develop communication and presentation skills among school children, and help them be more aware of the environment around them,” said Anthony Peter, Associate Director and Group General Manager, Direct Communications and Customer Care Group, Panasonic Marketing Middle East.

“We congratulate all the winners on their achievement. Children need to be reminded to care for the environment they live in, and the KWN programme is designed to do exactly that,” added Peters.
