Will Julia Gillard Invite Palestinians to the Lodge?
The revelation that former prime minister Kevin Rudd invited six hard right Zionist leaders to the Lodge to appease
their concerns has exposed the Labor Party’s bias towards Israel, says Asem Judeh, human rights activist and Israeli
Terrorism Monitor founder.
“Will the new prime minister, Julia Gillard, invite Palestinians and Muslims to the Lodge to address their
concerns?” he asks. “Where is the even handed treatment of the Middle East that is Labor policy? Even after
the series of appalling massacres and violence acts perpetrated by Israel, including murdering innocent aid
workers, Labor leaders still rush to support Israel.”
Judeh says the concerns of the Muslim community are ignored as the nation’s leaders rush to support Israel no matter
what outrages it does. “The reason for the meeting at The Lodge was to get fund raising for the Labor Party by Zionists
back on track,” he says. “This is not proper democratic government, it is politicians going to those with most money.
The government is supposed to represent all Australians, and that includes people of Palestinian origin and Muslims.”
“The government wants to hide from the real reason for Israel’s Gaza blockade, which is to isolate and humiliate the
Gazans population for electing Hamas in a fair election. Not content with making Gazans refugees in their own land,
Israel is trying to crush their small moves towards democracy.”
Judeh says Israel's policy is cruel and violates an occupying power’s duties under the Geneva Convention.
“Australia is supporting a country, Israel, that destroys democratic initiatives when it suits their interests. This is
not support of democracy, it is supporting those who attack democracy.”
