ALBAWABA - Dozens of thousands of people evacuated Canada's western Manitoba province on Wednesday amid a spreading wildfire.

"The Manitoba government has declared a province-wide state of emergency due to the wildfire situation," Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew announced in a press conference.

"This is the largest evacuation Manitoba will have seen in most people's living memory," he said, adding that over 17,000 people left the province.

Manitoba Premier urged help from Canadian PM Mark Carney and asked him to send in the military with the evacuations and firefighting.

Rapidly, the Canadian government will be sending a military plane to help transfer people out of endangered remote northern communities to a safe place. In addition, the government will be sending more firefighting resources to help combat the spreading fires, Kinew mentioned.
