Sheikha Mouzah bint Nasser Al Missned, wife of the Qatari Emir and Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, will donate the £500,000 she won in damages in a libel suit against a London-based Arabic newspaper to two charities - Medical Aid for Palestinians and an Iraq Education fund.
In an out of court settlement reached with her legal team earlier this week, the Azzaman daily agreed to pay £500,000 to Sheikha Mouzah and publish a front page apology in both its print and electronic editions for making allegations which the paper accepted “had no truth whatsoever”.
Azzaman, a newspaper edited by an Iraqi who opposed Saddam Hussein's regime, ran a series of articles claiming Sheikha Mouza had interfered in the political and security affairs and had secret dealings with Israel.
